Someone Please Explain “Financially Smart” to Chargers’ Vincent Jackson

On Friday, San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson stated that he was prepared to sit out the entire season if he could not obtain a contract to his liking.

In one of the more stunning comments to come from an athlete, Jackson offered up this gem, "The union comes and talks to us about the lockout possibility next year and I've been financially smart."

Mr. Jackson, how does sacrificing a year of pay this season with the possibility of no pay next year qualify as being "financially smart?" At face value, this move seems financially silly.
