SF Giants, Tim Lincecum Agree To Two-Year, $23 Million Contract

Yesterday the San Francisco Giants offered Tim Lincecum a three-year contract worth $37 million, and Lincecum’s camp declined the offer.

They countered with fewer years and less money per year on average—an interesting decision to say the least.

To fully understand why Lincecum and his agent would do so, you have to fully understand the situation and the arbitration process.

Lincecum is a super-two player so he only had two years of renewed contracts and four years of arbitration, as opposed to three years of each which most players are given under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
