Oakland Athletics 2010 Preview

Oakland is coming off three straight losing seasons and Billy Beane, Bob Geren and Co. think that they have the right combination of good young pitching, potentially great defense, and scrappy, hard-nosed hitters to end the streak in 2010.

If it's going to happen, it's not going to get done with the take-pitch-after-pitch, station-to-station sluggers of "Moneyball" fame.  This is an approach—the one that puts a premium on speed and aggressive plate appearances—to A's baseball that is by no means new (the great '70s teams were built that way), it just hasn't been seen in these parts since Billy Beane was a player.
