In what cannot be considered a surprising move, the Oakland Athletics traded free agent to be outfielder Matt Holliday today. The St. Louis Cardinals, long in the discussion for both Holliday and Toronto pitcher Roy Halladay, were the willing recipients.

Accompanying Holliday on his flight east is a suitcase containing his remaining salary for the year, approximately 1.5 million dollars.

On their way west, assumedly flying coach, are a trio of minor league prospects, third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and pitcher Clayton Mortensen.
